This snooker training system may be different from anything you have read before and may represent a 'paradigm shift' in how ambitious amateur and professional snooker players may approach their training and practice in the future. The training in this system is divided into four distinct sections.Fox Cub trainingprovides young people or adults who have never played snooker before with a gentle and fun introduction to the game of snooker. The method helps students learn a little about the equipment used to play snooker and the game's history. After that, the fun exercises are designed to help students become familiar with some fundamental shots and requirements of beginning to play snooker. I have used this training method many times to help engage young players with the game, and the sessions have always been great fun and beneficial to the students. Furthermore, even experienced players find many of the exercises fun and, to some degree, challenging.Tigers Claw training is for ambitious intermediate-standard players with a strong desire to improve and compete with other competent players. This structured training program will push students to improve and contains a vast wealth of exercises and challenges. Students will be able to become familiar with many of the shots frequently used by professional players. Furthermore, the system is ideal for professional coaches to use alongside their existing approach and frequently, parents of young snooker players can use it to aid their child's development and bring a little structure to their training. The book's third section is Snake Pit training for competent players (a consistent 50+ break player who also regularly makes 70 to 90 breaks and has some century breaks under their belt) who wish to push themselves to the limit aiming to play at the highest level. This training is for players who have had or will be having regular coaching sessions and will be involved in local, regional, and national standard tournament play. The final section of the book is the Honey Badger training. It should only be attempted when players have completed the Tigers Claw and Snake Pit training andstill have the desire and ambition to push themselves even further. The practice routines and challenges in the Tigers Claw, Snake Pit and Honey Badger training incorporate the principle of Thorndike and Woodworth's (1901) 'theory of identical elements", which suggests that the most effective form of practice closely approximates the conditions of competition.According to Cummings and Williams (2014), making training conditions like competition may prepare individuals to cope with the pressures involved in performing (which is the aim of this book). I have used simulation training in my coaching sessions. It is a recognised technique used in many different domains (arts, military, medicine, sports etc.) and may "instil a sense of performance accomplishment in athletes" (Cummings and Williams,2014).If you are a professional coach, this system may be perfect to use alongside your association's training material and is a method I have used successfully. If you are a player looking to include structure and challenge in your training, this book may be beneficial. Frequently snooker players like to help younger players improve, and this book will be helpful in that aim. Furthermore, parents often play an essential role in their child's development in sports, and this system may be a valuable tool for a parent looking to provide some structure in their child's training.
